Beyond the ordinary
Module 3: Go With the Flow (Watercolors & Acceptance)
Overview
Welcome to Module 3! Today, we are playing with watercolors. Unlike other paints that stay exactly where you put them, watercolors have a mind of their own. They are fluid, see-through, and full of surprises. This makes them the perfect tool to practice "acceptance"—learning to let go of control and finding peace even when things don't go exactly as planned. Just like paint moving on paper, life has its own path. We’re going to learn how to move with it instead of fighting against it.
Theme: Finding Peace in the Unexpected
In a world where we feel like we have to plan every second, true peace comes from being able to adapt. Watercolors teach us patience. Instead of forcing the paint to do what we want, we learn to guide it gently. When colors mix in ways you didn't expect, you’re practicing how to let go of "perfect" and see the beauty in what actually happens.
Questions to Think About
You can write about these in a journal or just think about them while you paint:
- What parts of your life are you trying to control too much?
- Where can you practice just letting things happen?
- Can you remember a time when things went "wrong," but ended up teaching you something good?
- What does "acceptance" look like to you?
- If acceptance were a color or a shape, what would it be?
Activity: The "Flow State"
The Goal: Create a painting where the water and paint do the work. Don't worry about the "result"—just enjoy the process of letting go.
What You Need:
- Watercolor paints and paper.
- Brushes and two cups of water (one for cleaning, one for fresh water).
- Paper towels and a palette or plate for mixing.
How to Do It:
1 Get Ready: Find a quiet spot. Take a few deep breaths and relax your shoulders.
2.Prep Your Paper: You can tape your paper down to a piece of cardboard so it stays flat while it gets wet.
3. Wet the Paper: Use a big brush and plain water to dampen the whole page. It should look shiny, but not have big puddles.
4. Pick Your Colors: Pick a few colors that feel right to you in this moment. Don't try to paint a specific "thing" like a house or a tree.
5. et it Flow: Touch your brush to the wet paper. Watch the color spread out on its own. You can tilt the paper to make the paint move, but try not to "scrub" it or force it.
6. ccept the Surprises: If colors mix in a way you didn't plan, leave
7. Finish Up: Stop when the page feels "full" to you and let it dry.
Thinking Back
Once your art is dry, take a look at it and ask yourself:
- Where do you see "energy" or "calm" in the paint?
- How do you feel now compared to when you started?
- Was it hard to let the paint do its own thing, or did it feel like a relief?
- How can you take this feeling of "going with the flow" into your week?
